I am a documentary producer. I match money, ideas, people and distribution plans to make films happen and get seen.
After more than twenty years running an television production company, I set up Dartmouth Films at the beginning of 2008 to make documentaries which make a difference. Often these films are financed and distributed differently; sometimes they are made by new and emerging directors. Television is part of our distribution model, but only part - television is good at getting big audiences but rarely good at achieving big social change. So far our biggest success has been The End of the Line, but since Dartmouth started I have also executive produced films about the industrialisation of pig farming, the plight of a pastoralist Ethiopian tribe, the challenges of growing up as an inner-city child and the implications of the West's meat-heavy diet. We have a number of projects in development and production, all of which aim to help make the world a better informed, more tolerant and more humanitarian place. And I am not emabarrassed to say so.
