Vision, Mission & Values

Mission Serve is the ServiceNation coalition’s civilian-military initiative, connecting the civilian and military communities through a broad array of service and volunteer partnerships designed to address the challenges of our nation and our military communities. Service to country is a powerful act of idealism, and the ServiceNation civilian-military initiative aims to unite the worlds of military and civilian service, tapping the energy, wisdom and experience of the millions of citizens—in uniform and out—who are dedicated to strengthening America through their service, and uniting them in support of one another.

Our theory of social change involves using signature public events to move the needle on a social issue. Thus, in September 2008 we produced the ServiceNation summit whose attendees included then-Senator Barack Obama Senator John McCain, and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Admiral Michael Mullen. The result was that in April 2009 President Obama signed into law the bi-partisan Edward M. Kennedy Serve America Act, the largest expansion of federal funds for national and community service since the Great Depression,
