The Monument Music & Arts Festival

Vision, Mission & Values

The Monument Music & Arts Festival is a one-day charitable music festival taking place in Washington, DC during the summer of 2011. At its core, Monument aims to empower both musicians and their fans to impact positive social change through philanthropy and activism. Each band at the festival will be encouraged to choose a charitable cause that it supports, and working with Monument, will identify a corresponding organization to become a partner with the Festival. Partner charities will receive a financial donation from Monument on behalf of the selecting band, as well as branding and outreach opportunities and an onsite presence at the festival. Using the collective power and influence of the music community, The Monument Music & Arts Festival will also serve as a platform for action, giving young people a way to get involved directly involved in the causes supported by their favorite bands. To this end, Monument has partnered with Citizen Effect (www.citizeneffect.org), a leading microphilanthropy platform, so bands can leverage the collective power of their fans' social networks to raise more money and drive greater impact to the cause of their choice. Touting over 25 national and local acts, The Monument Music & Arts Festival expects to attract between 25,000 and 30,000 attendees in its first year. The event will be held in late June in Washington, DC. As the epicenter of politics and activism, Washington, DC is a prime location for the Monument Music & Arts Festival to thrive. The metropolitan area is home to over 250,000 engaged and active young professionals between the ages of 18-34. Dozens of colleges and universities have central and auxiliary campuses throughout the area. Additionally, each summer the city hosts nearly 20,000 college students who come to DC for internships on Capitol Hill and elsewhere. These target demographics combine to form a base that is well educated and increasingly large, as graduates and young adults move to the city more and more each year for opportunities in government, business, and the non-profit sector.

Media Strategy...

The Monument Music and Arts Festival will be pitched to media on both a local and National level. Stories will be crafted around the idea of dozens of bands coming together to support charity in Washington, DC. At the same time, stories will be pitched to local and specialized media on a case-by-case basis. Working with film to create unique stories coming out of the Festival is a top priority, and organizers are open to exploring ideas and options from potential partners. V Street Entertainment has secured the services of nationally recognized PR firms Minassian Media and Massey Media to handle local, national and specialty media campaigns.
