About the Film

For 9 months in 2007, General David Richards was the Commander of NATO's operation in Afghanistan. It was his job to hold together a precarious coalition of 37 nations in a collective fight against a resurgent Taliban. 120 miles away in a remote Canadian forward base, Sgt Nichola Bascon is desperately trying to win over the local people.

It's no easy task, for Richards or Bascon. Not only is the Taliban attracting increasing support from a population angered by repeated civilian arrests, injuries and fatalities, but NATO's contriubting nations are holding back troops and issuing complex "caveats" that restrict how Richards can deploy his troops.

And so while Richards has grand plans in Kabul, the reality on the ground for Nicola tells a very different story.

A profound insight into the personalities of soldiers, and the mechanics of modern warfare.
