A graphic portrait of life inside a British field hospital during the 2003 invasion of Iraq.
Nobody wants to be at the Battle Hospital. The giant tented camp close to the Iraqi border is run by Britain’s Territorial Army, and was sent out in 2003 to provide crucial trauma care to coalition soldiers. But as the war gears up, the hospital's volunteer staff soon finds itself overwhelmed by Iraqi civilians and children, and are treating them on fly-ridden operating tables.
The doctors try to escape their surroundings through brass bands and discos, but it’s an uphill struggle, particularly when the increasingly frustrated Iraqi fathers and children threaten to go on hunger strike in a bid to persuade the army to take them home.
With complex medical emergencies compounded by a clash of culture and understanding, 202 Field Hospital soon becomes an emotionally charged microcosm for the fallout from the war.
With stunning cinematography, this critically acclaimed film contrasts the graphic horrors of war with the dream-like state invoked by living in a desert limbo.
