Bees are dying across the planet, this film explores the mystery of why now and why on such a large scale. Filmed over two years it seeks to answer how we can help bees, a creature on which our own agrciultural system relies, and what their disappearance
Shot over the past two years in countries ranging from Australia, UK, France, Germany and the US, this is the definitive exploration of why the honey bee is dying off across the planet.
Responsible for pollinating 80% of insect-pollinated crops, the honey bee is a key species - without it the whole ecosystem would collapse - directly we would lose 1/3 of our food sources, our fruits, our nuts and many vegetables - indirectly, we could lose much more as the delicate balance of nature is unpicked.
So why are the bees dying? Why now? And why suddenly in such vast numbers across the developed world? The film explores the subject with scientific rigour but is also a colourful, character-ful journey that ultimately offers hope - we can change if we want to.
Already the film has secured a major theatrical distribution deal in the UK in October 2009 and we are looking to release internationally.
We are keen to hear from any partner organisations to join our hive.
We are seeking finishing funds, the film is at fine cut stage and we are currently looking for additional support to complete licensing and final complex post production - ahead of our UK release in October 2009 - please contact me at james@newblackfilms.com for further details.
